Apple Watch 12 and Ultra 4 are said to eavesdrop on conversations and counter Whoop

Apple’s perhaps biggest launch event of the year kicks off in a few hours. In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro (Max) and the iPhone Duo, the successors to the Apple Watch Series 11 ($319 on Amazon) and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 are also expected. A report from Bloomberg now provides some new details on the upgrades expected for the two smartwatches.

According to the report, the design will remain largely unchanged, aside from new colors and bands, and a ceramic version of the Apple Watch Series 12. An upgrade to the advertised battery life is reportedly planned only for the Apple Watch Ultra 4. Those who prefer a smaller Apple Watch will still have to make do with a battery life of just one day. Earlier rumors also pointed to an improved heart rate sensor that continuously collects data rather than taking a measurement only every few minutes.

The focus is said to be on new software features. A brand-new "Readiness" app is expected to enable new wellness features based on the collected data, although similar features are already available from competitors such as Whoop or the Oura Ring. Finally, Apple is said to be introducing a feature that allows the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 to listen in around the clock via their built-in microphones and analyze conversations using artificial intelligence to provide a summary of the day. According to Bloomberg, Apple is said to be placing particular emphasis on user privacy, but is nevertheless taking a major step toward round-the-clock monitoring of users.
