Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra to get major display upgrade

Samsung's next flagship line is reportedly getting its most significant screen upgrade in years, according to a report from South Korea's ETNews. The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are said to be adopting Samsung Display's new M16 OLED panels, the company's most advanced display material yet. If true, this would mark the first major OLED-material upgrade for Samsung’s Galaxy S series in three years.

The M16 panels are expected to improve brightness, color accuracy, power efficiency and display longevity. Other reported new features include Color Filter-on-Encapsulation (COE), which removes the traditional polarizing layer from OLED screens by printing a color filter directly onto the thin-film encapsulation layer, and Privacy Display technology, which limits side-angle visibility.

The standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ are expected to transition to M14 panels, a step up from the M13 panels in the current S26 line, but still a tier below their pricier siblings. Reported screen sizes range from 6.27 inches on the base model to 6.89 inches on the Ultra. Notably, the M16 panel already ships in rival devices, including Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and Google's Pixel 11, meaning Samsung's own flagships, ironically, are trailing competitors that use Samsung-made screens.

Samsung is also expected to install M16 panels in its foldable Z Flip 9 and Z Fold 9 devices in late 2027. As with any pre-launch leak, these specifications remain unconfirmed and may be subject to change.
