New evidence that Google is preparing to release a new smartwatch has emerged online. Arriving after pictures of the unnamed fitness tracker surfaced in August, the regulatory filing indicates that the device supports GPS and runs Wear OS, rather than a lightweight alternative.

Google's mysterious wearable has reappeared, having been spotted in adverts for the Pixel 11 series in August. As we discussed at the time, the unnamed wearable was pictured alongside the Pixel Watch 5 (curr. $399 on Amazon) in Olive and Fog finishes.

Unsurprisingly, those adverts are no longer visible. Officially, Google has said nothing about the device. However, the company has been spotted certifying a new wearable with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US.

As the images below show, the device has been certified as G8BL6 with no other branding. Consequently, we cannot currently determine whether G8BL6 will fall under Google's Pixel line or its Fitbit division. Nonetheless, its adverts positioned the unreleased wearable as a Pixel device rather than a Fitbit equivalent.

To that end, the FCC indicates that the G8BL6 runs Android rather than a lightweight proprietary alternative. Additionally, the device supports Bluetooth Low Energy and GNSS connectivity. Hence, it should offer on-device GPS rather than connected GPS with a paired smartphone. The certified wearable also contains a metal frame, matching the design shown in Google's adverts. Unfortunately, the FCC has not elaborated further at this stage.
