Leak: Apple TV 4K said to get 2x performance upgrade and up to 12 GB RAM

Rumors have long suggested that the launch of a new Apple TV 4K is imminent. Since the current model was released in October 2022, the next-generation Apple TV could see a dramatic leap in performance. This is now suggested by a report from MacRumors, which states that the code in the beta version of tvOS 27 contains indications that the set-top box will be equipped with either the Apple A19 with 8 GB of RAM or the Apple A19 Pro with 12 GB of RAM.

By comparison, the 2022 Apple TV 4K is equipped with the Apple A15 Bionic and 4 GB of RAM. However, it uses a stripped-down version of the ARM chip that has only five processor cores instead of six. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the Apple A19 (Pro) in the new model will also be downgraded. If Apple opts for the Apple A19 Pro, the next-generation Apple TV 4K could achieve nearly twice the CPU performance and even more than double the graphics performance.

The faster chip is primarily intended to enable the use of Siri AI on the set-top box. Rumors also point to a redesigned remote control and an Apple N1 chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, among other features. However, the upgrades to the more modern processor and the expanded RAM are likely to result in a higher price. The Apple TV 4K already became significantly more expensive in June – the model with 128 GB of storage now costs $249, up from $149.
