Apple's new CEO is already hinting at the most exciting upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro.
Shortly before the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple’s new CEO hints at what is likely the most exciting new feature of the flagship smartphones in a teaser video that could hardly be any clearer.

It’s rather unusual for Apple to release a teaser video before the launch of a new product. For the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple’s newly appointed CEO John Ternus is apparently making an exception, as Tim Cook’s successor has posted a video in the X-Post embedded below that seems to hint at a camera upgrade for the Apple iPhone 18 Pro.

This is because a camera lens is clearly visible at the bottom of the video, while the width of the beam of light falling on this lens is being adjusted. The fact that this circle of light is angular rather than perfectly round upon closer inspection strongly suggests that it is a variable aperture. This confirms the rumors about what is likely the most exciting camera upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, from none other than Apple’s CEO himself. According to rumors, the aperture of the iPhone 18 Pro (Max)’s main camera can be adjusted from f/1.4 to f/4.0.

By comparison, the aperture of the main camera on the iPhone 17 Pro ($1,199 on Amazon) is fixed at f/1.8. This means the iPhone 18 Pro’s lens could transmit about two-thirds more light, which should result in significantly better image quality, especially in low-light conditions. When stopped down to f/4.0, however, the camera achieves a much greater depth of field, making it possible, for example, to capture people standing one behind the other in a group photo or, in a landscape shot, to keep both the foreground directly in front of the smartphone and the background in focus. The Apple iPhone 18 Pro (Max) will be officially unveiled at a launch event starting at 10 a.m. PT.
