You'll need to create your character by customizing his appearance, class, gender, and skills. Inspired by historical events, the story takes you to Gaul, Greece, and North Africa, where you'll carry out various missions to enforce Rome's will.

To succeed, you’ll have five companions by your side, and you’ll be able to recruit legionaries and improve your warcamp. Battles are turn-based and depend on your characters’ abilities and equipment. Passive abilities can also help you, and you’ll need to think strategically. In addition, you'll be asked to make political decisions that will shape your adventure and the outcome of your campaigns. 

With 87% positive reviews out of 6,775 reviews on Steam, Expeditions: Rome ranks among the "Very Positive" games. Furthermore, on Metacritic, it has a Metascore of 80 and a user score of 7.8. The story is well received and features several twists and turns. Players often praise the combat as well as the visual detail. However, many bugs have been reported, while the game offers little replay value and the pace can sometimes feel slow. Some players also criticize a lack of balance.
