Deal | A true hidden gem? 97% positive roguelike shooter hits $7.49 for the first time on Steam

By the year 2120, human civilization has long since collapsed. What remains are intelligent robots that have formed their own societies, factions and some rather bizarre cults. Players never get too comfortable in the metallic shells of these machines, however. That's because the actual protagonist is a disembodied AI that constantly jumps from one body to another.

These body swaps are the game's central mechanic: Every enemy is simultaneously a threat, a weapon and a potential new body. If the current bot is destroyed, however, the run ends as well. It therefore pays to jump into a fresh body before the current one is destroyed – and quick reflexes are more than helpful here. There are eight different robot types in total, some of which play fundamentally differently from one another. Their abilities range from traditional firearms to melee combat and grappling as well as projectile deflection and physics-based attacks.

Players therefore have to think not only about how to eliminate all enemies as quickly as possible, but also which bot to take over next and which body is best suited to the current situation. Trick shots and spectacular combos also increase the score, which in turn serves as currency for upgrades during a run.

With 97% positive ratings from more than 650 player reviews, the response on Steam has been exceptionally strong. The body-swapping mechanic, mechanical depth, high skill ceiling and satisfying combat system have been particularly well received. At the same time, that very complexity creates a fairly steep learning curve: Players have to master several completely different movesets and constantly switch between them during hectic battles. Especially at the beginning, this can make the game feel rather chaotic and challenging.

RAM: Random Access Mayhem was released in September 2025 and normally costs just under $15 on Steam. However, a 50% discount brings the price down to $7.49 until September 29. According to SteamDB, the game had previously been discounted by no more than 40%, making the current deal a new all-time low.

Despite the strong reception, RAM: Random Access Mayhem has largely flown under the radar so far, but it could be a real hidden gem for fans of roguelikes and fast-paced top-down shooters. The current all-time low is arguably the best opportunity yet to give it a try. On the Steam Deck, the game is rated as “Playable.”
