Inspired by the tabletop role-playing game Mutant Year Zero, this tactical RPG was developed by The Bearded Ladies and published by Funcom on December 4, 2018. Combining Xcom-inspired combat with exploration and stealth, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by mutants. 

You control a group of three mutants named Dux, Bormin, and Selma, who can be joined by two other characters. Each character has their own skills, as well as different attacks based on their mutations. 

Throughout your adventure, you'll need to use stealth to progress or infiltrate enemy camps. You have several options, such as silently eliminating your opponents or facing them in tactical, turn-based battles. You'll also need to use the environment wisely by avoiding bright areas and favoring darkness. Your actions will be rewarded not only with better loot but also with new mutations.

Rated “Very Positive” on Steam, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden has 90% positive reviews out of 20,562 reviews. However, on Metacritic, the scores are quite different, with a Metascore of 78 and a user score of 7.7. Often praised for its gameplay, storyline, and mechanics, some players feel that the game lacks balance, particularly when it comes to enemy levels. A lack of customization has also been noted, and while the maps are well-designed, they offer few tactical possibilities.

Despite this, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is currently available for $10.49 following a 70% discount. However, according to SteamDB, this offer will end on October 1, 2026, and the price will return to $34.99.
