Deal | New all-time low: Dark Soulslike shooter drops below $10 for the first time on Steam

Remnant II takes place in a dark multiverse where hardly any two worlds are alike. Players set out from one of humanity's last strongholds to find the missing Clementine and investigate a threat that connects multiple worlds. Along the way, the game constantly changes its scenery – from the futuristic wasteland of N'Erud and the dark fae realm of Losomn to Yaesha, which already appeared in the previous game.

When it comes to gameplay, Remnant II takes an unusual approach. Dodge rolls, stamina management, checkpoints and tough boss fights clearly draw inspiration from Soulslikes. Instead of heading into battle with swords and shields, however, players wield shotguns, assault rifles and other firearms. This is complemented by an Archetype system that replaces traditional character classes. The various Archetypes come with their own abilities and playstyles, can later be combined and, together with weapons, mods and traits, open up numerous possibilities for different builds.

The game also features a campaign that can play out somewhat differently with each run. Which areas, bosses, NPCs and events appear is determined partly at random. Players who want to revisit certain content or search for secrets they may have missed can separately regenerate previously completed biomes in Adventure Mode. The game can be played solo or in co-op with up to three players. Loot that is found is automatically shared with all party members, while Archetypes and weapon mods can be deliberately coordinated to complement one another.

German gaming magazine PC Games awarded the game 8 out of 10 points in its review and particularly praised the responsive shooter gameplay, extensive build options and co-op mode. The randomized content also provides plenty of replay value. On the other hand, the publication criticized the rather cryptic storytelling, some opaque gameplay systems and boss fights that can occasionally become chaotic due to projectiles, area-of-effect attacks and additional enemies.

The Steam community's verdict is similarly positive: 82% of more than 68,000 player reviews recommend Remnant II. Metacritic lists a Metascore of 80 and a user score of 7.2.

Under $10 on Steam for the first time

Remnant II normally costs just under $50 on Steam. Until September 28, however, the Soulslike shooter is 80% off and available for $9.99. According to SteamDB, the deal not only marks a new all-time low but also brings the game below the $10 mark for the first time. Handheld gamers are out of luck this time, however: On the Steam Deck, Remnant II is rated as “Unsupported.”
