TGS 2026: PlayStation & Square Enix digital streams detailed

Tokyo Game Show 2026's fifth and final day, Monday, September 21, was cancelled in person after organiser CESA cited forecasts of strengthening wind and rain from Typhoon Dujuan, also designated Typhoon No. 25. The announcement came on September 19, with CESA saying the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and staff in getting home from Makuhari Messe was the deciding factor behind the call. 

The show's fourth day, Sunday, September 20, went ahead as scheduled and closed out the four days that ultimately took place at the venue, cutting short what had been billed as the event's first ever five day run for its 30th anniversary.

CESA said it was working to salvage part of the cancelled day's programming, confirming that some stage events originally planned for September 21 would still be streamed online as official broadcasts. Not every publisher followed that path, though. Sony confirmed in its own statement that the hands-on demos and streaming events planned for the PlayStation booth on September 21 would not go ahead at all, rather than moving online.

Square Enix keeps its TGS demos and reveals in focus

Square Enix's presence at the show centered on a playable demo of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which had attendees explore the Whirlwind Maze alongside new party members Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. The demo highlighted the game's new FITS system alongside Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks. Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Remake trilogy, is due out on PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027.

Square Enix also released a new Tokyo Game Show trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, its HD-2D turn-based RPG based on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, ahead of its October 22 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A separate gameplay trailer covered Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, focusing on its monster training and synthesis systems and introducing a new Joint Battle feature that lets players coordinate tactical moves alongside their monster companions. That game is set to launch on December 3, 2026.

Archived versions of the show's streamed content, including any rescheduled September 21 broadcasts, are expected to remain available on the organizer's and publishers' official channels in the coming weeks.
