Deal | 90% positive space strategy puzzler hits new all-time low just over $5 on Steam

LONESTAR is – brace yourself – a space roguelike deckbuilder with puzzle elements. That may sound like a lot at first, but in practice, it turns out to be a surprisingly accessible combination. Essentially, the goal is to use your spaceship as efficiently as possible from turn to turn. To do so, energy units with different numerical values and colors are distributed across weapons and support systems. Some modules require specific colors, while others need minimum values or matching numbers. The appeal comes from combining the available energy in a way that generates as much attack power as possible.

Battles take place across three parallel lanes. In each lane, the player and the enemy generate their own attack values, which are then compared against each other. Whoever has the higher value deals the difference as damage. This turns every move into a small numbers puzzle in which offense and defense are directly connected.

Additional depth comes from various ship components, pilot abilities and passive bonuses. There are also synergies between adjacent modules, allowing players to put together new builds throughout a run. Depending on the enemy, one combination may work extremely well, only to require a complete overhaul in the very next battle.

This unusual mix has been very well received on Steam: 90% of more than 2,400 user reviews are positive. Players particularly praise the high level of tactical depth, the numerous synergies between ship components and the wide variety of possible builds. Criticism, on the other hand, focuses on occasionally unclear tooltips, an uneven difficulty curve in some areas and bosses that can almost completely counter certain builds.

On Steam, LONESTAR is 60% off until September 28 and costs $5.11 instead of $12.79. According to SteamDB, the deal marks a new all-time low, with the previous maximum discount being 55%. On the Steam Deck, the game is Steam Deck Verified and should therefore run without issues.
