Casio finally unveils new lighter GST-B1000 G-Steel watches in the US

Casio's resin-band G-Steel watches are now available in the US. The GST-B1000-1A and GST-B1000-2A are listed on Casio's US website for $385 each, both with a "New" badge there. The pair first launched in Japan at the start of August for ¥60,500, and went on sale in the UK shortly after.

The two watches are lighter versions of the GST-B1000D, which Casio released last year with a stainless steel bracelet. The case and dial are the same, but the band is not. Instead of the classic steel bracelet, Casio uses a bio-based urethane strap, and that brings the weight down from 118g to just 58g. That's roughly half.

The case measures 46.9 x 44.2 x 11.6 mm. It uses Casio's Carbon Core Guard structure, with a bio-based carbon case and a stainless steel bezel on top. The GST-B1000-1A has a black dial, while the GST-B1000-2A goes with a metallic blue one. Both dials have a textured horizontal pattern, alongside a 24-hour sub-dial and a date window. The crystal is mineral glass, and the crown screws down.

Like the bracelet models, these are powered by Tough Solar and connect to a phone over Bluetooth, which keeps the time set automatically. They're also rated for 200 m of water resistance. There's a stopwatch, a countdown timer, a daily alarm and a Super Illuminator LED light too. On a full charge, the watches last around five months with normal use, and up to 18 months in the dark with power saving turned on.

At $385, the resin-band models cost $55 less than the steel-bracelet GST-B1000D in the US. Both the GST-B1000-1A and GST-B1000-2A are available to order now from Casio US, alongside the three existing bracelet versions.
