Casio Oceanus OCW-P3000: First hands-on photos show off the clever world-time bezel and striking design

Casio recently took the wraps off the new Oceanus OCW-P3000 lineup in Japan, reviving its Cachalot sports line with three new travel-ready watches. The trio isn’t set to go on sale until October in the country, and Casio has yet to confirm a global release date. But fortunately, we don’t have to wait till October to get a closer look at the watches.

New hands-on images shared by @geesgshock on Instagram give us our best look yet at the new Oceanus lineup. The photos showcase a downsized 42.9mm titanium case and matching bracelet, finished with sharp Zaratsu polishing and brushed hairline surfaces. Framing the dial is a stunning bidirectional ceramic bezel split into two tones at 6 AM and 6 PM to separate day and night hours. 

The blue OCW-P3000-2A and green OCW-P3000-3A use silver-colored titanium, while the OCW-P3000B-1A gets a darker DLC treatment. Under the sapphire glass, the intricate dial packs three textured subdials, bold faceted indices, and an angled chapter ring marked with 26 city codes.

The main highlight of the package is, of course, the new Time Zone Navigator, which lets you use the bezel in conjunction with city codes printed on the chapter ring to get a quick read of the approximate time in 26 cities around the world. Holding the 10 o’clock pusher points the accent-tipped second hand to the city where it is currently midnight. When you align the bezel’s luminous triangle with that position, the bezel's 24-hour scale will display the current time for that city.

Photos also give us a closer look at the watch’s various components and showcase a step-by-step breakdown of how the OCW-P3000's dial and two-tone ceramic bezel are manufactured.

One image shows the dial-making process, moving from a blank dial plate to the blue vapor-deposited and printed surface before finally resulting in the finished dial complete with subdials and markings. Another shows how the ceramic bezel insert goes through various stages, including cutting and polishing, before becoming the finished two-tone bezel.

The new OCW-P3000 series packs Casio’s newest Tough MVT. 2 movement, offering magnetic-field detection and shock-based hand-position correction along with Tough Solar charging, Bluetooth, and Multiband 6 radio reception.

First introduced in 2008, Cachalot typically skips yearly updates, surfacing only every few years when Casio has new hardware to show off. The OCW-P3000 is the first new model since the release of the OCW-P2000 in 2020. All three variants are set to go on sale in Japan on October 16, with the blue OCW-P3000-2A and green OCW-P3000-3A priced at 220,000 yen (~$1,402) and the black OCW-P3000B-1A commanding a slightly higher price at 253,000 yen (~$1,612).
