Casio's affordable F-91WF watches now back in stock in the US after selling out

All three Casio F-91WF references are buyable again on Casio's US store at $45.95. Just yesterday, the same page listed every one of them as unavailable.

The fabric-strap F-91W reached the US in early September, about a month after going on sale in parts of Asia. For a while now, the black F-91WF-1A, navy F-91WF-2A and olive F-91WF-3A had all switched to a notify-me button. As of 15 September all three carry a buy button again. Casio has said nothing about either the sell-through or the restock; none of the three is a limited edition as well, just highly sought after models.

Price has also been a big argument around this watch since it was first launched. At $45.95 the F-91WF is roughly double a standard F-91W's price; the only difference is the strap. It's a woven band made from recycled PET in place of resin; Casio describes it as scratch- and stain-resistant and sizes for wrists between 145 and 215 mm. The objection from collectors has been that the same result costs a $22 F-91W plus a few dollars of fabric strap. This is a swap people have been making for years. Regardless, the watch was quickly out of stock on Casio's own store within days of the US launch.

For reference, the case is 38.2 by 35.2 by 8.5 mm and the watch weighs 21 g (the same as the resin version). A CR2016 cell is rated at about seven years. The module sports a 1/100-second stopwatch with split timing, a daily alarm, an auto calendar, an hourly chime, 12- and 24-hour display and the dim green LED backlight the F-91W (curr. $22 on Amazon) has always had. Accuracy is quoted at plus or minus 30 seconds a month.
