Casio's new motorsport-inspired Edifice chronographs land in US

Alongside the new G-Shock squares with MIP displays, Casio has also brought two new Edifice chronographs to the US. The solar-powered EFSS660D-1A and EFSS660PB-1A debuted in Japan in early August and eventually made their way to Europe. Now, they’re officially out in the US.

The Casio Edifice EFSS660D-1A is the more traditional of the two and sports a stainless steel case and bracelet and features a blue center seconds hand, while the EFSS660PB-1A comes with a gray ion-plated case and a resin band and a red center seconds hand. Both are priced at $200 and are now up for grabs directly from Casio US’s website.

Featuring a motorsport-inspired aesthetic, the duo shares the same 45.3 x 38.3 x 11.6 mm stainless steel case and a 38.3 mm-wide profile, making them noticeably more compact than many modern chronographs. Both also feature sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, 100-meter water resistance, a date display, and solar charging. The EFSS660D-1A weighs 129g, while the resin-band EFSS660PB-1A is significantly lighter at 71 grams.

There's a tachymeter scale around the dial for calculating average speed, along with a central chronograph seconds hand that can track elapsed time down to 1/20 of a second. The stopwatch can measure up to 59 minutes and 59.95 seconds, and supports elapsed, split, and first- and second-place timing. 

Casio's Tough Solar charging system is also onboard, and the textured dial is especially designed to let enough light through for the solar cells to keep the battery topped up. Casio says both models can last for up to five months on a full charge without additional light, while accuracy is rated at ±20 seconds per month.
