Citizen unveils limited-edition Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer with a 1/5-second flyback chronograph

The new Promaster Skyhawk isn’t the only limited-edition watch coming from Citizen in September, it seems. Alongside the bold pilot watch, the Japanese watchmaker has announced the Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer AV0104-06W, a stunning retro-inspired “bullhead” chronograph that pairs a two-tone case with a deep green racing dial and the company’s hand-assembled Eco-Drive Caliber E210.
For those wondering, the Tsuno (“horn”) name comes from the watch’s signature layout, where the crown sits at the top of the case between two oversized chronograph pushers. Originally introduced on Citizen’s racing chronographs in 1973, the configuration gives the watch an unmistakable motorsport personality while making the stopwatch controls feel surprisingly ergonomic on the wrist.
The 44.5mm stainless steel case may sound intimidating on paper, but its ergonomic, curved profile should help the watch hug the wrist more comfortably. A polished gold-tone bezel frames the dial with matching chronograph pushers. There's also a secondary crown for the alarm function that rests at 5 o’clock.
Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal lies a rich, British-racing-green dial layered with dark chronograph subdials and faceted gold-tone hour markers. Here’s a brief rundown of all four sub-registers: At 12 o’clock sits the chronograph minute counter, with the chronograph hour totalizer at 6 o’clock and running seconds at 3 o’clock. A sweeping white power reserve indicator occupies the left side of the dial, while a small alarm on/off indicator appears around 4:30. Finally, we have a framed date window tucked between 1 and 2 o’clock.
On the inside, Citizen continues to utilize the tried-and-tested Calibre E210 movement, which is basically the Caliber 2100 (now discontinued) rotated 90 degrees. The hand-assembled movement keeps the watch running by sipping energy from both natural and artificial light sources and includes a 1/5-second flyback chronograph capable of timing up to 12 hours, an alarm, date display, and power reserve indicator. The watch is secured by a thick dark brown leather strap with a gold-accented deployant clasp, and the whole package is water-resistant to 200 meters.
