Citizen's new compact limited-edition watches launch in stainless-steel with mother-of-pearl dial
Citizen is launching 800 of one watch and 850 of the other, and they're both sibling models. The two references arrive under Kii:, Citizen's women's line, and both are priced at ¥35,200 including consumption tax, or about $221. Release is set for 17 September with bookings open now.
EG7048-56E is the smaller run at 800 pieces. Its stainless-steel case comes with jet black plating, and it is matched to a black dial where the indices are rendered in a slightly different black to separate them from the background. A single diamond sits at twelve.
EG7049-53Y is limited to 850 pieces and swaps the palette for grey. The plating is grey, and the dial is white butterfly shell, better known as mother-of-pearl, treated in a matching grey. Citizen adds that the shell shifts appearance as light moves across it.
Both cases are rectangular in an antique style, and both are quite small. The case measures 14.3 mm across and 7.5 mm thick — the whole watch weighs merely 27 grams on a 10 mm mesh bracelet that adjusts between 125 and 176 mm. The crystal is curved.
Power comes from caliber G620, an Eco-Drive movement running to plus or minus 15 seconds a month with roughly eight months of reserve from a full charge. Citizen also lists a charging warning, overcharge prevention and a time-setting notification alongside it.
Two details are pretty easy to miss. Part of the dial assembly uses recycled material, and Citizen describes the bracelet as an interchangeable structure, meaning it can come off without tools.
Water resistance is rated only for everyday use; no bar figure has been given. The warranty is limited to three years internationally, extending to five within Japan for buyers who register with Citizen inside twelve months.
