Citizen’s latest Promaster Skyhawk A-T brings atomic accuracy to a seriously capable pilot watch

Citizen has expanded its pilot watch lineup with the introduction of the Promaster Seahawk JY8144-50E, a bold aviation-themed watch with atomic timekeeping and an analog-digital setup. It's arriving right on the heels of the UK-exclusive Red Arrow Limited Edition Skyhawk and the stealthy Promaster Seahawk x Sikorsky diver.

At 46mm, the new pilot watch is unapologetically large and attention-grabbing, with sharply faceted surfaces giving it a distinctive instrument-like presence. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating covers the dial, and luminous hands and chunky hour markers keep the traditional analog display legible beneath all that information.

Coming to the dial, there's a lot to take in here. At 12 o’clock sits a 24-hour UTC sub-dial, complemented by a radio reception and charge level meter at 9 o’clock and an analog 24-hour local time display at 2 o’clock. At 6 o’clock, we have a mode selector that controls the perpetual calendar, dual alarms, 99-minute timer, and 1/100-second chronograph measuring up to 24 hours.

Meanwhile, two LCD windows provide the bulk of the digital readouts, with the left display handling the date and day and the larger display at 3 o’clock showing the time and various chronograph, timer, alarm, and dual-time information depending on the mode you selected.

The bezel is just as busy and packed with information. The outer scale combines fuel and distance conversions, with markings for liters, U.S. gallons, imperial gallons, nautical miles, and miles. An inner scale adds additional aviation calculations, while the chapter ring is packed with 24-hour and city/time-zone markings.

Powering the watch is Citizen’s light-powered Caliber U680 Eco-Drive movement, which continuously generates energy from ambient light to keep the watch ticking. As indicated by the “A-T” appended to its name, this model supports atomic timekeeping and can synchronize automatically with atomic time clock radio transmitters across North America, Europe, China, and Japan for pinpoint accuracy. Rounding out the spec sheet is a reassuring 200 meters of water resistance.
