Citizen unveils a new affordable racing chronograph with a compass chapter ring

Hot on the heels of its recently launched reverse-panda and panda-dial chronographs, Citizen is adding one more entrant to its budget-friendly racing chronograph line with the introduction of the CA4722-06L. The new model is simply called the Racing Chronograph, and it’s part of the CA472xx series that debuted in Europe in January. It offers the same 42mm proportions and solar-powered B620-00Z Eco-Drive movement as its sibling in a flashier gold-and-blue exterior.

At first glance, the new CA4722-06L may appear very similar to other world-time and motorsports-inspired chronographs in Citizen’s lineup, but there are a few visual distinctions that set it apart. The biggest difference is that it ditches the tachymeter scale commonly found on Citizen's racing chronographs for a compass chapter ring marked with cardinal directions and degree indicators. 

The black chapter ring surrounds an eye-catching blue sunray dial that shifts tone under direct light, while applied gold-tone hour batons and faceted hands filled with luminescent material complement the 42mm gold-tone stainless steel case.

You also get a red central chronograph hand with a sharp arrow tip and three black subdials, including a 24-hour register, a running seconds and battery charge indicator, and a 60-minute stopwatch counter capable of tracking splits in 1/5-second increments. A discreet date window tucks cleanly between the 4 and 5 o'clock markers.

The polished and brushed gold case is flanked by traditional pump pushers and a knurled crown, paired with an embossed black leather strap featuring contrast white stitching and a signed gold-tone pin buckle. Inside, Citizen’s solar-powered B620 caliber keeps things running. It recharges via any ambient indoor or outdoor light source and can last up to 270 days on a full charge. Citizen rates accuracy at ±15-second per month.

The Citizen Racing Chronograph CA4722-06L is available now in the UK directly through Citizen’s website for £369. We don’t know if Citizen plans to launch this model in other markets, including the US.
