PlayStation Store leaks GTA 6 PS5 age ratings in vital step before release date

With another GTA 6 release date delay unlikely, age ratings have now leaked on Sony’s marketplace. GTAVice.net noticed the PlayStation Store revealed the information in a series of social media ads. Besides an X 18+ classification in Australia that seems to be an error, the labels are otherwise unsurprising.

Some age ratings had already surfaced when GTA 6 pre-orders opened. Still, if the storefront is correct, players can expect a final PEGI 18 tag in much of Europe and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the PS5 game received an adults-only D in Mexico. Finally, Saudi Arabia and the UAE deem the Rockstar project suitable for audiences 21 and older.

ESRB, which covers North America, is absent despite the November 19th launch approaching. However, Xbox has listed a pending determination of Likely Mature 17+ on its storefront. None of the results differ significantly from GTA 5, hinting the sequel depicts the same levels of violence, drug use, and nudity.

One PlayStation Store GTA 6 leak raising eyebrows was an X 18+ icon for Australia. That would be higher than the R 18+ age rating of the previous Grand Theft Auto. The classification is normally used for adult films rather than games. As it turns out, the regional advertisement later vanished, suggesting it was an error.

Censorship concerns?

The labels also don’t guarantee there won’t be censored versions of the PS5 title. In Australia, GTA 3 didn’t launch at the same time as in other nations. Lacking an R 18+ option in 2001, it failed to meet the MA 15+ standard, prompting a delay. Developers modified gameplay involving prostitutes to avoid a lengthier postponement.

Rockstar made similar changes before GTA 4 shipped to avoid the same issues, while GTA 5 was uncut. It’s unclear if the studio will need to tweak any content ahead of the GTA 6 release date. Recently, localized product codes for the physical PS5 game appeared in the Rockstar Store backend. Even so, these variations may exist to satisfy region-specific packaging requirements.
