Rockstar says GTA 6 players won't explore the entire map by finishing the story

Rockstar Games says players who complete Grand Theft Auto VI's story will not have seen all of its map, which the studio puts at roughly twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V's.
Rupert Humphries, Rockstar's senior vice president of narrative, told Game Informer that the campaign does not have time to take players everywhere. He said it is instead designed to let them explore and get a feel for most of the state's places, cultures, and atmosphere, with the rest left for players to find on their own.
Aaron Garbut of Rockstar North described Leonida, the game's fictional take on Florida, as the largest world the studio has built “by some degree." It covers around double the area of GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County. Leonida is divided into six regions. They are Vice City, modeled on Miami; Grassrivers, based on the Everglades; the Leonida Keys; Port Gellhorn; Ambrosia; and Mount Kalaga National Park.
The state will be home to more than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of bird, grouped into rare, discoverable, and legendary categories. Alligators, manatees, flamingos, sharks, whales, and macaques are among the confirmed wildlife, while Rockstar has not revealed which animals fall into the legendary group.
The weather is localized and dynamic, with wind moving hair and debris on rooftops, rippling water, and bending grass in the swamps. Tropical storms and hurricanes have been confirmed, although Rockstar has not said how often they occur or whether they affect missions.
The relationship between protagonists Jason and Lucia can develop along romantic or platonic lines depending on player choices. Fast travel works through RydeMe, an in-game ride-hailing app, with players able to change the radio, browse social media, or talk to the driver during the trip.
Grand Theft Auto VI releases on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
