GTA 6's Lucia will be as captivating as Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic

Rockstar’s two major franchises, GTA and Red Dead Redemption, have always had strong protagonists. GTA: Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti, GTA IV’s Niko Bellic, the trio from GTA V, and, of course, Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2. With GTA 6, for the first time, Rockstar will bring in a female lead, and the writer believes she can stand toe-to-toe with the best.
GTA 6 will feature Lucia and Jason in the lead roles, and players will be able to swap between the two at will, at least most of the time. From the trailers and the extended look, we know that Lucia is great behind the wheel and just as good with hand-to-hand combat. Besides these traits, she is a “fully realised person” with her own wants, clichés, and imperfections, says game writer Alexa D’Agostino.
Speaking with Love magazine, Alexa shared that she took inspiration from her mother when writing the character of Lucia (via RockstarIntel).
When it came to writing Lucia, I thought of the women I know—my mother was an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, close to Lucia’s hometown of Liberty City. I thought about the way she raised me: rowdy, kind, but not to take any shit. I related a lot to Lucia, and writing her came very naturally to me. There are many badass women like her, just as there are many men like Jason. We just focused on capturing that. When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real. That’s how you get a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic.
Arthur Morgan, played by Roger Clark, is regarded as one of the best protagonists in gaming. To be on the same level is a high bar, and the writer says the actress who plays Lucia brought a lot to the character. While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed it, it is believed that Manni L. Perez is the face and voice of Lucia. She has previously been seen in shows like Jessica Jones, Blindspot, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
