WRC 7 offers a driving experience that falls somewhere between a racing simulation and an arcade racer. As part of the Steam Autumn Sale, the rally game has reached a new all-time low: $1 instead of $20.

Racing simulations are often not particularly beginner-friendly, while arcade racers can sometimes feel too simple and undemanding. Anyone looking for a middle ground may find exactly that in WRC 7 – and currently has the chance to pick up the 2017 title from KT Racing and Nacon at a bargain price. The Steam Autumn Sale brings a 95% discount, making WRC 7 available for around $1 instead of $20 for the first time (according to SteamDB).

As the name suggests, WRC 7 is a rally racer. Instead of traditional circuits, races take place on unpaved gravel roads, muddy forest trails and snow-covered mountain routes. Players are typically alone on the track – and the real opponent is the clock. Fast stage times aren't achieved by simply keeping the accelerator pinned, but through precise braking, clean cornering and a good feel for the surface beneath the car.

There are numerous officially licensed rally cars to choose from. In addition to individual stages and championships, WRC 7 features a career mode in which players work their way through different vehicle classes to the top of the World Rally Championship. Those who want to compete directly against others can also race online or play locally in split-screen or hot-seat mode. The game is also compatible with the Steam Deck.

In Digital Chumps' review, WRC 7 impressed above all with its driving feel, which is described as a successful blend of simulation and arcade racing. The reviewers also praise the pleasantly responsive controls, the varied and visually appealing rally locations and the entertaining career mode. However, WRC 7 offers less gameplay depth than full-fledged rally simulations such as Dirt Rally 2.0 and may therefore feel a little too simple for experienced genre fans, according to the reviewers. Digital Chumps awarded the game 7.9 out of 10 points. WRC 7 is also generally well received on Steam, where 81% of more than 12,000 reviews are positive.
