Xbox Elite Series 3 controller leaks with TMR/Hall effect sticks and imminent release

More details about the rumored Xbox Elite Series 3 controller are emerging. Numerous configurations have leaked on the Xbox Design Lab backend, including TMR, Hall effect, and advanced haptic options. A separate report suggests a holiday release date for the Microsoft accessory.
Surprising feature set
The follow-up to the Elite Series 2 had already surfaced several times. Most recently, in August, a Redditor shared photos of a prototype the poster claimed to have purchased. The latest leak confirms some features but also introduces unexpected capabilities.
Microsoft and Sony have so far refused to embrace TMR or Hall effect thumbsticks. They partially address the durability and accuracy concerns of the existing pro-grade Xbox controller. Despite doubts that the Xbox Elite Series 3 would embrace these technologies, it will likely boast this advancement.
Taking a cue from the PS5’s DualSense and DualSense Edge, some Xbox controller configurations will offer advanced haptics. Instead of standard rumbling motors, voice-coil actuators produce more nuanced feedback. Meanwhile, impulse triggers provide realistic responses to braking in racing games or firing weapons.
It now seems the scroll wheels spotted in the August photos default to audio controls. The new information doesn’t mention battery life, but the Elite Series 3 is expected to ship with a removable, rechargeable battery pack. That’s a departure from the integrated battery of the Elite Series 2.
Plenty of choices
The Design Labs datamine revealed that 4 SKUS will likely launch at different prices. Buyers could order the accessory with or without the improved haptics. The Complete package may also bundle top and bottom paddles with a charging dock and case. Regardless of the selection, physical customization should be extensive, bolstered by various faceplates.
Gamers may not have to wait much longer for Microsoft to unveil the new Xbox controller. Jez Corden of Windows Central anticipates an Xbox Elite Series 3 announcement soon.
