One of the best survival strategy games is finally coming to Nintendo Switch

Frostpunk takes players to a frozen world where only a few cities remain. One of them is New London – and players have to quite literally build it up from the ice. At its core, Frostpunk plays like a traditional city builder. However, the goal here is less about creating a thriving metropolis and much more about ensuring the survival of its population. As the city's leader, players repeatedly have to make morally questionable decisions. Child labor, for example, can be legalized to provide desperately needed additional workers – but only at the expense of safety and morale.
Originally released for PC in April 2018, Frostpunk was later ported to PS4, Xbox One and smartphones. Nintendo fans were left out – at least until now. 11 bit studios had already announced a Switch version of Frostpunk in April 2026. On October 5, the specific October 19 release date was confirmed in a release trailer. This should be a big deal for Nintendo fans. After all, Frostpunk is considered one of the leading survival strategy games and enjoys highly positive ratings on Steam and Metacritic. The port launches on October 19. A new release trailer was published alongside the announcement.
Frostpunk launches in two editions
The product page on the Nintendo eShop is already live – including pre-orders and a free demo. According to the announcement, Frostpunk is being released for the original Switch but should also be playable on the Switch 2 (currently $663 on Amazon) thanks to backward compatibility. At launch, the game will be offered in two editions. Alongside the base game for $29.99, a Complete Edition containing the three expansions The Rifts, The Last Autumn and On The Edge will be available for $45. 11 bit studios is offering a 30% launch discount on the standard edition and 35% off the Complete Edition.
