Square Enix and co-developer Lancarse will release Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Xbox on PC. It is the first HD-2D game in the series.

The game adapts the first story arc of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a standalone turn-based RPG set in the world of Lapis. Lancarse previously worked on The DioField Chronicle. A free demo covering Chapter 1 has been available since early September, and its save data carries over to the full game.

What the demo covers

The demo for Final Fantasy Resonance runs from the opening through the end of Chapter 1, which Square Enix estimates at around three to five hours. The story follows Rain, commander of an airship squadron in the kingdom of Grandshelt, who sets out to protect the world's remaining crystals after the Earth Crystal is shattered. The latest trailer also confirmed that Sephiroth appears in the game as a challenge players can seek out for a special reward.

Combat and music

Combat is turn-based and drops the Active Time Battle system in favor of a turn-order timeline. Fights revolve around exploiting enemy weaknesses to stagger foes, which opens up extra turns and powerful Resonance attacks. Visions are crystallized essences of characters such as Cloud and Tidus, and players find them in the world and equip them to party members.

Noriyasu Agematsu composed the score, which includes 120 tracks in total, 33 of them new alongside music from Brave Exvius. A four-CD release of the original soundtrack follows on October 28, with pre-orders already open in Japan.

PC requirements

Steam lists 64-bit Windows 11, DirectX 12, 8GB of RAM, and 15GB of storage for both tiers. The recommended spec aims for 1080p at 60 fps on the highest settings with a Core i3-8100 or Ryzen 5 2500X and a GeForce GTX 1650, Radeon RX 5500 XT, or Arc A580. A lower minimum tier is aimed at 30 fps on Low. The Steam version is Steam Deck Verified and uses Denuvo DRM.
