The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios opened pre-install for Gears of War: E-Day on September 29, ahead of its worldwide launch on October 6 at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). The game arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam, and Premium Edition owners have been playing since early access began on October 1.

Install size and access

The PC version requires 115 GB of free SSD space, and the Xbox PC app currently lists a download of roughly 120 GB. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on day one, while Game Pass members who buy the Premium Upgrade get early access on October 1. Online campaign co-op, Horde Siege and Versus require a Game Pass plan that includes online multiplayer. Digital purchases on Xbox support Xbox Play Anywhere, so a single purchase covers both console and PC.

Console performance and setting

Xbox lists the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S consoles supporting 4K, HDR, and up to 60 FPS and notes that a compatible display is required. The Coalition rebuilt the game in Unreal Engine 5. Set 14 years before the original 2006 release, E-Day follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago through Emergence Day in the city of Kalona.

PC system requirements

Every PC tier requires an SSD and a ray-tracing-capable GPU. The recommended tier targets 1440p at 60 FPS or higher on high settings with upscaling. The Coalition lists a Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-11600K, 16 GB of RAM, and a GeForce RTX 5060, RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT with 8 GB of VRAM. The PC version supports DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 3.0 and includes a built-in benchmark mode.
