Deal | “Unrivaled”: This hardcore RTS with co-op is now just $1 on Steam

Anyone in the mood for a truly challenging strategy game can currently find an interesting deal on Steam: Men of War: Assault Squad is once again available with a 90% discount, matching its previous all-time low according to SteamDB. This brings the regular price of around $10 down to just $1. Incidentally, the deal is also interesting for handheld gamers. The title is rated as “Playable” on the Steam Deck.
In Men of War: Assault Squad, players head to the battlefields of World War II with various nations – including the US, Germany, the Soviet Union, Japan and the British Commonwealth forces. The locations range from Europe to the Pacific. Players must capture control points, break through enemy positions and gain the upper hand with clever maneuvers.

What sets the real-time strategy game apart is that every unit can also be controlled directly – from individual infantrymen to tanks and artillery. This allows players to take matters into their own hands in the middle of a battle, whether by lining up a precise shot, maneuvering a tank into a better firing position or having a soldier throw a grenade into an enemy position. Line of sight, cover, ammunition and, when dealing with armored targets, armor and penetration all matter. Simply sending everything forward therefore rarely works. The destructible environments add even more dynamics to the battlefield: Walls can collapse, explosions leave craters and vehicles show visible damage.
In GameStar's German review, the RTS scores particularly well with its challenging battles, realistic physics and detailed damage model, which should put even experienced tacticians to the test. The extensive multiplayer with co-op mode was also well received. In co-op, players fight together against AI troops, while competitive multiplayer lets them face off against each other. GameStar even writes that Men of War is “unrivaled” as a realistic co-op strategy game. Points were deducted for the dated technology, AI weaknesses and a somewhat underwhelming single-player mode: There is no traditional campaign. As a result, despite its positive conclusion, GameStar awarded the game only 70 out of 100 points overall. On Steam, things look somewhat better, with 87% positive feedback from around 5,000 reviews.
