A new installer developed by modders lets players install Nvidia's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology on AMD GPUs in any game. The move comes as others have already ported the technology to older Nvidia GPUs than the company officially supports.

While there isnt much disagreement AMD is significantly behind Nvidia in upscaling and ray tracing, some gamers argue they don't need that kind of fluff. For those who do, however, DLSS 5’s Neural Rendering has been causing quite a buzz recently, with even AMD GPU owners curious to see what all the hype is about.

DLSS 5 on AMD GPUs

Multiple modders have been working overtime over the past month to implement Nvidia’s exclusive features across most modern GPUs, whether they're Nvidia's older RTX cards or AMD’s latest lineup. In the first week of September, the DLSS-NR-on-AMD project was able to implement Nvidia’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on AMD GPUs. Currently, the project supports only the Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 GPUs in DirectX12 games that support FSR.

However, since the technology was not meant for AMD GPUs, it is only natural to expect subpar performance, and such was the case here. The developers behind the mod project, though, remain undeterred and are working on workarounds to bring performance to a satisfactory level. In the meantime, they recommend using frame generation to achieve better performance.

Easy Installation and Better Performance?

In a single day, developer Daniel Blanco launched DLSS-NR-on-AMD Alpha 0.4.2, claiming a 15% performance boost over the older 0.4.1 version. Alpha 0.4.2’s release was quickly followed by Alpha 0.4.3, which claims an astounding 20% improvement over its predecessor. The project’s rapid progress means AMD users might be able to enjoy Neural Rendering soon without major performance overhead.

To install the mod, players would need to manually replace files in the game folder for every game they want to test it. Furthermore, any updates mean that players will have to replace files all over again. This is quite cumbersome, so a GitHub user named “3zwr1” has developed the AMDNR Launcher.

The AMDNR Launcher is an app that can identify any installed games on a PC, no matter which store they were downloaded from. It then lets users install the DLSS-NR-on-AMD mod in just a few clicks. The AMDNR Launcher can also install mod updates and remove the mod easily if the user wants to. The Launcher implements OptiScaler for ease of use, so players also have options to toggle frame generation, Ray Regeneration, and AMD and XeSS technologies.

These mods are unofficial projects, so they are error-prone, and players should keep in mind that these projects do not promise a stable experience.
