RPCS3 announces exciting news for Nvidia GPUs, promises much faster performance

From adding new games to its compatibility list to giving gamers cool new customization options, it seems RPCS3 has something new to announce every day. The RPCS3 team has now announced that the PS3 emulator now runs much faster on Nvidia GPUs. This is a huge development, as an overwhelming majority of gamers run Nvidia GeForce GPUs.
Per the RPCS3 team on X, developer Yahfz has resolved an Nvidia driver bug that was bottlenecking the performance of RPCS3 on Nvidia GeForce GPUs. The bug only affected Nvidia cards, as AMD GPUs weren’t bottlenecked.
With the bug resolved, RPCS3 notes some major gains for PS3 game emulation on Nvidia GPUs. In one particular example, the RPCS3 team measured:
So, not every Nvidia GPU will see similar performance gains. Similarly, performance gains will also fluctuate in different games on a scene-by-scene basis.
While seeing GPUs like the RTX 3080 and the RTX 5090 play PS3 games notably faster is very exciting, we are waiting to see the impact on low-end and older GPUs. The RPCS3 team can’t realistically test every GeForce GPU. So, we’ll have to wait for the community to test the cards themselves and report the findings.
Finally, RPCS3 has requested that Nvidia get in touch, as they have “no concrete way to submit ISV driver bugs” to get the problems fixed. The RPCS3 team also claimed that they “tried using the developer forums in the past to no avail and gave up.”
In response to this complaint, an Nvidia employee did comment that the RPCS3 team should report bugs through the Nvidia driver feedback forum.
