RPCS3 announces major graphical bug fix in classic FromSoftware PS3 game
The whole emulation space is moving at a breakneck pace as of late. Whether it is RPCS3 adding more PS3 games to its “Playable” list or KytyPS5 managing to play another PS5 game on PC, the development of console emulators is progressing pretty rapidly.
Case in point, the RPCS3 team has now announced that a serious graphical bug in Armored Core V has been fixed thanks to RPCS3 developers Yahfz and kd-11. The RPCS3 team explains on X that, after the fix, the PS3 emulator “no longer drops depth buffers when they are needed for zpass queries”.
Released all the way back in 2012 for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Armored Core V is among the minority of PS3 games that RPCS3 still can’t play perfectly. This is why the title is still classified as “Ingame” by the RPCS3 team. Before today, “flickering geometry during lock-on” was one of the main issues holding Armored Core V back from entering RPCS3’s “Playable” list.
With this bug now patched, the RPCS3 team now has only five major issues to fix, which include issues like missing music and cutscene audio, the game locking after installation on an HDD, etc.
All things considered, now is a pretty good time to jump into RPCS3. The RPCS3 team recently simplified the quickstart guide, making it much easier for beginners to get started with the emulator. All you need to do is:
- Download and install the official RPCS3 build
- On Windows, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
- Install the PlayStation 3 system software
- Dump your game library
