KytyPS5 PS5 emulator reportedly adds another PS5 game to its playable roster

It is beginning to look like we are in the early stages of true PlayStation 5 emulation on PC. This hope has been kindled by the KytyPS5 PS5 emulator, which seems to be making quick progress. While KytyPS5 is still in very early stages, we have already seen the emulator run PlayStation 5 exclusives like Demon’s Souls and Astro Bot.
KytyPS5 has now added another game to its compatibility list. YouTuber Unreal Gaming has managed to run Astro’s Playroom on KytyPS5. Astro’s Playroom is a 3D platformer that comes pre-installed on all PS5 consoles. The game serves as an interactive tour of the PS5 console and the DualSense controller.
Since KytyPS5 is still in very early stages, the PS5 emulator struggles to run Astro’s Playroom at a smooth frame rate. The game often drops below 30 FPS. The good thing, however, is that the short video posted by Unreal Gaming shows no crashes. So, it means that KytyPS5 can run Astro’s Playroom, and performance should improve in the coming months as KytyPS5 matures.
Emulation is very CPU-demanding. For instance, the RPCS3 PS3 emulator needs a Ryzen 7 9800X3D to perform at its best. The same is true for KytyPS5. Unreal Gaming was running KytyPS5 on a PC with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 4080. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is one of the best gaming CPUs on the market.
So, if you plan to give PS5 emulation a shot on your PC, make sure you have a pretty powerful CPU. You can get away with a mid-range GPU but a high-end/flagship CPU is a must for good emulation performance.
We hope to see KytyPS5 improve more in the coming days. With Sony moving away from physical game discs, we need a good PS5 emulator to ensure game preservation when Sony eventually shuts down the PS5 store in the future.
