RPCS3 reaches major milestone en route to perfectly playing all PS3 first-party games

Slowly but surely, RPCS3 has been making progress towards achieving 100% playability for the entire PS3 library. The PS3 emulator can currently play around 77.25% of the indexed game library with no game-breaking bugs and sufficient performance, with another 21.71% of games categorized as “Ingame” due to some issues.
Two of these “Ingame” titles are God of War 3 and God of War: Ascension, the latter of which was released all the way back in 2013, as the last God of War game for the Sony PlayStation 3. The team behind RPCS3 has announced on the official X account that a graphical bug plaguing God of War 3 and God of War: Ascension has now been resolved thanks to Yahfz’s work on correctly emulating RSX's DP3 fragment shader function.
With this bug out of the way, RPCS3 has announced that the God of War series on PS3 is now free from graphical bugs. This is a big achievement, as it brings RPCS3 one step closer to perfectly playing all first-party PS3 exclusives.
The thing that is now keeping God of War 3 and God of War: Ascension in the “Ingame” list rather than the “Playable” list in the RPCS3 compatibility database is mainly the performance of the titles. Both of these God of War games were some of the best-looking titles released on the PS3. So, it is not a surprise that they require pretty powerful hardware to emulate with good performance.
That said, you can still tweak some settings to optimize performance for your hardware. RPCS3 recommends:
- Disabling MLAA
- Turning on unlocked FPS
- Turning off Motion Blur
- Disabling Depth of Field
Moreover, PS3 emulation is incredibly CPU-intensive. So, invest in as powerful a CPU as you can afford. For instance, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D will give you much better performance than a Ryzen 5 9600X. Also, use a Linux distro, as RPCS3 runs best on Linux.
