Durabook launches 9.8 kg rugged laptop with three 14-inch displays and optional RTX 5000 Ada GPU

Durabook has introduced the Z14I-DX3, a rugged mobile workstation that brings the multi-monitor desktop experience into less hospitable environments. IT integrates three 14-inch displays into a single foldable package and tips the scales at a hefty 21.61 lb, or roughly 9.8 kg, putting even the heftiest gaming laptops to shame.

The panels have a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and peak brightness of 1,200 nits for use in bright sunlight. Durabook’s DynaVue screens also support capacitive touch input and selectable modes for fingers, gloves, a stylus and even use in wet conditions. The two secondary displays remain permanently attached and fold inwards over the main display when the workstation is being transported.

Underneath all that is a fairly old Intel CPU. This is not uncommon for this category of laptops. The Durabook  Z14I-DX3 comes with Meteor Lake chips ranging from the Core Ultra 5 125U to the Core Ultra 7 165U, with up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory. Buyers can stick with Intel’s integrated graphics or configure the machine with an Nvidia workstation-grade RTX A500, RTX 3500 Ada, or RTX 5000 Ada.

The Durebook Z14I-DX3 is primarily designed for applications such as live video, maps, telemetry and communications in defence, emergency services, industrial and field engineering environments. Therefore, the magnesium-alloy system carries MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G certifications and can operate at temperatures ranging from -29 °C to 63 °C.

Connectivity is equally extensive. The workstation provides Thunderbolt 4, three additional USB ports, HDMI, VGA, dual Gigabit Ethernet, two serial ports, microSD, ExpressCard 54 and a smart card reader, among other connections. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 come as standard, while GPS, 4G LTE and 5G connectivity are optional. Storage can include multiple removable SSDs, with Durabook also offering PCIe expansion and RAID configurations.

Running a monstrosity with three displays requires a battery that can keep up. Thus, the Z14I-DX3 packs a 6,900 mAh main battery, while its extra screens use a separate 6,700 mAh battery. An optional secondary battery is also available, and Durabook supplies the workstation with a 210 W power adapter. The Durabook Z14I-DX3 is available now, although the company has not published retail pricing. Prospective buyers must instead contact the company for a quote.
