Dell has introduced the Pro Rugged 13 Extreme, a fully rugged laptop designed for harsh field environments with a 6-foot drop rating and IP66 protection. It is powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 300 processors and comes with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1,400-nit touchscreen and support for dual hot-swappable batteries.

Dell has introduced the Pro Rugged 13 Extreme alongside the Pro Rugged 14. It is a fully rugged 13.3-inch laptop designed for operation in harsh field environments. Unlike the semi-rugged Pro Rugged 14, the new Extreme model prioritises outright durability. The company says it can withstand drops from up to 6 feet, or 1.8 metres, and operate at temperatures ranging from -29°C to 63°C. It is also IP66-rated against dust and high-pressure water jets, while MIL-STD-810H testing covers conditions including blowing rain, sand, vibration, humidity, salt fog, altitude and thermal shock. If that wasn't enough, the machine also carries MIL-STD-461G certification and Class 1 Division 2 hazardous-location certification, making it suitable for specialised industrial deployments. Dell additionally claims the system can cold-boot from battery power at temperatures as low as -20°C.

Specs-wise, the Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme uses off-the-shelf Intel Panther Lake processors. Available CPU options include the Core Ultra 5 335, Core Ultra 5 338H and Core Ultra X7 368H. The Core Ultra 5 335 configurations use standard Intel Graphics, while the Core Ultra 5 338H gets an Intel Arc B370 iGPU. At the top of the range, the Core Ultra X7 368H is paired with an Intel Arc B390. Dell offers 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory. Memory speeds reach up to 7,467 MT/s with the Core Ultra 5 335 and up to 8,533 MT/s with the two higher-end processors. Storage choices range from 512 GB to 2 TB.

The 13.3-inch touchscreen runs at 1,920 x 1,080 and reaches up to 1,400 nits, making it ideal for use in bright outdoor environments. Dell equips the panel with an anti-glare finish and support for standard, gloved and wet-touch input for use outdoors and in poor weather. A 53.5 Wh battery powers the laptop, with support for up to two hot-swappable batteries. This allows one battery to be replaced while the laptop continues running from the other.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, an optional Qualcomm Snapdragon X72 5G modem and an optional dedicated GNSS module. The system also supports configurable triple RF pass-through for connecting external antennas. For I/O, you get Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet, serial connectivity, microSD and nano-SIM slots. Dell also provides a configurable I/O bay that can accommodate USB-A, serial, a Fischer connector or 2.5 Gbps Ethernet. The Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme starts at 2.41 kg and measures 36.5 mm thick without its protective bumpers, increasing to 43.5 mm with them installed. Pricing and availability information is not available at this time.
