The two new Casio MRG and GMW series watches unveiled alongside the MRG-D5000
Casio has launched two more blue sapphire G-Shocks. The 500-piece MRG-B5000SA-2JR comes with two two-carat stones at ¥880,000, and the GMW-B5000SB-1A2JF sets four smaller ones into its bezel for ¥110,000. All the stones are lab-grown, not mined.

Two more blue sapphire G-Shocks got listed on Casio Japan this morning — between this new collection, they cover an enormous amount of money. The MRG-B5000SA-2JR is ¥880,000, about $5,590. The GMW-B5000SB-1A2JF is ¥110,000, roughly $700. Both carry lab-grown blue sapphires, and both arrived in the same announcement as the ¥11,000,000 MRG-D5000. We have covered both these watches in leaks before.

Take the MR-G first. It's called Super Blue, after the ice cave in Iceland's largest glacier, and it's limited to 500 serial-numbered pieces for December. The bezel is fitted with two two-carat sapphires, faceted so they catch light from any angle, and Casio went lab-grown deliberately, saying natural stones rarely reach the blue it wanted. Blue shows up everywhere else as well: AIP on the bezel, IP on the suspension parts, and a blue deposition on the sapphire crystal itself.

Underneath is the MRG-B5000, so the top bezel is Cobarion and the case and buttons are Ti64 titanium. It measures 49.4 × 43.2 × 12.9 mm and weighs 103 g, and the multi-guard structure was redesigned specifically to protect the stones. The case back carries an MR-G 30th logo and the serial number.

The GMW does something smaller for a fraction of the money. Four round brilliant-cut sapphires sit in the bezel dimples, each supported from behind by a steel pedestal and a rubber buffer, with a hole bored through so light reaches the stone. Casio pairs them with a black IP bezel, a negative display and a black urethane band, so the blue is the only color on the watch. The case is stainless steel, 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm, 98 g, arriving in November.

Also, there's another key difference: the MR-G gets sapphire glass; the GMW gets inorganic glass.
