Casio unveils first Mudman watches with MIP display, fitness tracking, red backlight

Casio has made the GDG-B100 official. The Mudman we covered twice as a leak is now listed on Casio Japan in three colorways at ¥38,500 each including tax, which works out to roughly $245. Preorders are open and the release is set for October.
This is the first Mudman with a MIP display, the memory-in-pixel type that stays readable in daylight without burning through power. Casio has paired it with a red LED backlight instead of a white one, and the stated reason is dark adaptation: red light lets your eyes stay adjusted to the dark after you check the time.
The trade-off is that there's no Tough Solar. Battery life is about two years, and when it runs out you have to replace the cell. The case itself is 63.6 × 49.6 × 16.2 mm and the whole watch weighs 66 g. Casio is using carbon fibre reinforced resin for the case with a Carbon Core Guard structure, and the bumper-style guards around the buttons are, in Casio's words, modelled on off-road vehicles and survival gear. Mud resistance and dust sealing are part of the Mudman brief, and water resistance is 200 m.
Training is the other half of the equation. An accelerometer handles distance, speed and pace, with automatic or manual laps, auto pause, and a log that holds up to 100 runs with as many as 140 laps each. Bluetooth brings in the Casio Watches app for notifications, world time across roughly 300 cities, a life log, and distance correction using the phone's GPS.
On the watch itself there's a 100-hour stopwatch, an interval timer with up to five steps, four alarms and vibration alerts.
The three references are the black GDG-B100-1JF, the green GDG-B100-1A3JF and the sand GDG-B100-1A5JF.
