Deal | Casio F-105W-1A with EL backlight now under $20 on Amazon (40% off), sports 7-year battery

Casio's F-105W-1A is only $17.97 on Amazon right now — that's 40% off, if you believe the $29.95 list price. Almost nobody pays that. The watch has averaged $20.04 over the past 90 days, as per Keepa. It has also sat at $17.97 for 29 days straight. If you hold out for the all-time low, you will be waiting a while, because that was back in January 2015.

The thing is, the F-105W has a mcuh better argument going for it than the discount does.

Essentially, the F-105W is an F-91W with a backlight that works. Same seven-year CR2016 battery, same 30 seconds a month of drift, same 1/100-second stopwatch, same daily alarm and auto calendar. The difference is behind the glass. Casio gave the F-105W a proper electro-luminescent panel that lights up the complete display in blue-green. The F-91W gets a single LED that lights one corner, and that too weakly.

You pay for it in millimeters. The F-105W measures 39 x 35.4 x 9.6 mm against the F-91W's 38.2 x 35.2 x 8.5 mm. It is a millimeter thicker, a little wider, and both still weigh 21 g. To be fair, nobody notices such minor differences on the wrist.

Also, we argued not long ago that the F-91W had drifted into overpriced territory at $19.61. The F-105W currently undercuts it and fixes its single worst flaw.

One warning: Casio rates both watches as water resistant with no depth figure attached. Rain and handwashing, yes. Swimming, no.
