Casio's sapphire-studded GMW-B5000SB-1A2 surfaces in a leaked dealer catalog shot
A new photograph of Casio's unannounced GMW-B5000SB-1A2 has just been uploaded online. It brings two details that weren't in the original leak. The image was posted by geesgshock on Instagram, who says it is presumably a shot from a dealer's catalog.
We covered this watch on September 14, when Great G-Shock World reported a November release in Japan at 110,000 yen. That report described blue sapphire elements sitting at the four screw positions on the front of the case. geesgshock now says those studs are lab-grown sapphire, and that the case carries a black IP finish. The band is urethane, and not the steel bracelet the GMW-B5000 normally ships with (we talked about that here).
A urethane band isn't a first for the line, though. The GMW-B5000-1 and the GMW-B5000G-1 and G-2 already have a metal case with a resin band. What's special here is the price. 110,000 yen is working roughly $701, and that is about 52% more than the 72,600 yen Casio charges for the standard GMW-B5000-1JF. @geesgshock puts the UK figure at around 699 pounds, but that is their own conversion and not a price Casio has given out.
The more interesting question in the post is whether this watch is part of something bigger. The source recently shared a sapphire MR-G, which we covered on September 14 too. That one is a 10 million yen piece limited to 20 units worldwide, built for the MR-G's 30th anniversary. The thought process this that the two could be a part of a series together.
Everything is unconfirmed, though. Casio has announced none of it.
