HP releases new 14-inch laptop with cheaper pricing and 1,100-nit OLED display
Earlier this week, Google announced five Googlebooks to rival high-end ultrabooks like the MacBook Air (curr. $1,254 on Amazon). As we discussed at the time, the Acer Googlebook 14 is the cheapest of the lot at $899. Meanwhile, three of these Googlebooks were said to cost over 40% more than Acer's model.
Quickly, OEMs started dropping prices below their $1,299 MSRPs, though. For instance, the Lenovo Googlebook 15 can already be purchased from Lenovo directly for $1,149 with twice as much storage as originally billed. Moreover, Best Buy is selling the Googlebook 15 for $1,099 with the same hardware specifications.
Now, HP has followed suit with its Googlebook 14, which initially arrived with a $1,299 MSRP. Currently, Best Buy still reflects this starting price, which includes 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. However, HP has priced its new 14-inch laptop at $1,199 by dropping to a 256 GB SSD.
Alternatively, one can pair the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100 with 32 GB of RAM for $1,589, with 512 GB and 1 TB SSDs offered as $80 and $280 upgrades. In other words, the HP Googlebook 14 tops out at $1,869. All configurations ship with a Wi-Fi 7 modem and a 70 Wh battery, as well as a 2.8K OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1,100 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. Surprisingly, pre-orders will not begin shipping until early November.
