Vaio releases special-edition laptop with 2.5K display, up to 64 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD

Vaio has released a premium special edition of its T series in Japan. The Kachi-iro Special Edition was first announced earlier this month alongside the standard T series.

The special edition comes with Intel's Core Ultra X7 358H or Core Ultra 7 356H processors. Both have 16 cores, 16 threads and a 25W power rating. They also have an NPU that can deliver up to 50 TOPS. The X7 358H reaches up to 4.8GHz and uses Intel Arc B390 graphics, while the Core Ultra 7 356H reaches up to 4.7GHz and uses Intel Graphics.

In our tests, the Core Ultra X7 358H was generally faster, although the difference was small in some tests. It scored 4,164 points in Cinebench 2026 multi-core, compared with 3,769 points for the Core Ultra 7 356H. In Cinebench R23 multi-core, the X7 was also slightly ahead with 18,806 points versus 18,586 points.

The laptop retains the T series' 13.3-inch WQXGA touchscreen with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio. Its multi-flip mechanism allows the device to be used in laptop, tablet and view modes.

Vaio offers up to 64GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory and up to a 2TB fifth-generation SSD with PCIe 5.0 x4. The memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded after purchase.

The Kachi-iro model has a matching finish and an optional hidden-engraving keyboard. The black keycaps hide the lettering until the keyboard backlight is turned on.

Depending on the configuration, the laptop weighs between 1.290kg and 1.368kg (2.84 to 3.02 lbs). It measures 312 x 224.6 x 14.6 to 19.6mm (12.28 x 8.84 x 0.57 to 0.77 inches). With the optional high-capacity battery, Vaio rates it for up to 18 hours of video playback and up to 29 hours of idle use under the JEITA 3.0 measurement method.

The laptop also has a 9.2MP camera with an AI vision sensor and Windows Hello support. Vaio includes AI-based noise cancellation, while its WellnessCare feature is scheduled to become available from September 30.

Pricing and availability

The Vaio T Kachi-iro special edition (VCTNN18) is available in Japan through the Vaio Store from ¥390,500 ($2,483). This base configuration includes a Core Ultra 7 356H, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.

The highest configuration with a Core Ultra X7 358H, 64GB of RAM and 2TB SSD costs ¥797,500 ($5,072). A high-capacity battery, Windows 11 Pro and other options are available at an additional cost. The ¥33,000 launch discount is valid until December 1, 2026.
