Deal | Popular strategy game gets its first 50% discount alongside fresh content

The end of the Command & Conquer series left a gaping hole in the hearts of many RTS fans – and Tempest Rising aims to fill exactly that gap. Players gather resources, build bases, produce units and then send their armies into fast-paced real-time battles. Simply throwing as many units as possible at the enemy isn't enough, however. Vehicles, infantry and support units need to be combined strategically and constantly adapted to the opposing forces in order to ultimately secure victory.

The parallels to Command & Conquer are also fairly obvious when it comes to the setting. Tempest Rising takes place in an alternate modern world following a devastating global conflict. At the center of the story are the Global Defense Force and the Tempest Dynasty, which fight for power, territory and the titular Tempest resource. Both factions have their own buildings, units and tactical options, making the two campaigns feel noticeably different. Classic skirmish battles and a multiplayer mode are also included.

The Veti’s Wrath, the first major DLC for Tempest Rising, was released on September 29. The expansion puts the Veti in the spotlight as a third faction and adds a new campaign with eleven missions. In skirmish and multiplayer, owners of the base game can even play as the Veti without purchasing the DLC.

To coincide with the release, Tempest Rising itself is also heavily discounted. The base game normally costs $39.99 on Steam, but is 50% off until October 1, bringing the price down to $19.99. According to SteamDB, this marks a new all-time low – the previous maximum discount was 35%.

In its review, Softpedia particularly praised Tempest Rising for its varied campaigns, wide selection of units and polished presentation. According to the publication, the game is also relatively accessible for newcomers. Criticism was directed at occasional pathfinding issues and minor balancing problems. In addition, Tempest Rising doesn't reinvent the genre, instead drawing very clear inspiration from its Command & Conquer predecessors. Softpedia awarded the game a solid 8.5 out of 10.

On Steam, Tempest Rising holds an 87% positive rating based on more than 12,000 player reviews. Metacritic lists the RTS with a Metascore of 80, while the User Score stands at 7.5. The game is rated as “Playable” on the Steam Deck.
