Citizen’s new Tsuno chronographs bring colorful gradients to a ’70s classic

Citizen Bullheads have enjoyed a surge in popularity after Brad Pitt was seen sporting a vintage model in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. This even led Citizen to revive the design for a new generation of enthusiasts with a more accessible quartz-powered model. The quartz reissue has been a big hit, and now, the brand is expanding its classic Tsuno Chrono lineup with four new accessible chronographs featuring striking gradient dials.
The watches are based on Citizen’s “Chronograph Challenge Timer,” which debuted in 1973 and earned the Tsuno (“horn”) nickname thanks to its horn-like chronograph pushers positioned at 11 and 1 o’clock. The unusual layout remains the defining feature of these new models, which are part of Citizen’s Record Label collection.
The lineup includes the AN3714-50H with a smoky gray dial, AN3714-68L in vivid blue, AN3714-76W with a green dial, and AN3714-84Z with a deep red dial. As you can see in the images, the color of the dial appears to radiate outward from the center, gradually darkening toward the inner bezel.
The dial also features three recessed sub-dials and a contrasting gold-colored chronograph hand that add a touch of vintage elegance. A sleek, jet-black plated bezel and a domed spherical crystal glass frame the face, while a date window sits between 4 and 5 o’clock.
Similar to the reissue Tsuno Chrono that launched earlier this year, the new watches stay remarkably faithful to the classic 1973 original design, featuring a compact stainless steel case that measures 38mm across and 11.7mm thick.
The package is completed by a simple, single-row stainless steel bracelet with folded links and a fully adjustable sliding clasp.
All four watches are powered by Citizen’s reliable quartz Caliber 0510, offering a one-second chronograph with a 12-hour counter, quick date adjustment, and claimed accuracy of ±20 seconds per month. The battery is rated to last around two years.
Pricing & Availability
Citizen’s new Tsuno chronographs are standard editions to the lineup and are set to launch in Japan on October 15. All four are priced at ¥29,700 (~$188), with international availability yet to be disclosed.
