Citizen's new limited-edition Series 8 automatic GMT gets a Damascus steel case, carbon dial

Citizen has announced a new Series 8 GMT; this one uses Damascus steel. The NB6092-01E is celebrating five years of the Series 8 line, which Citizen relaunched in 2021, and @plus9time says it's limited to 1,300 pieces.

Damascus steel is the interesting part here. It's the patterned steel traditionally used for sword and knife blades, while Citizen uses it for the central body of the case. Because of how the material is made, the pattern that shows up on the case sides and even on the lugs comes out differently on every watch. The whole case then gets a gold IP finish over the top.

The dial is forged carbon in anthracite, with gold-toned indices and hands. Around it sits a 24-hour bezel in black and brown, which is what you need for reading the GMT hand. The case measures 41 mm across and 13.5 mm thick, and the crystal is sapphire with an anti-reflective coating. There's a screw-down display case back too, and water resistance is rated at 10 bar. The caseback is engraved with the watch's serial number, and it has a magnetic resistance of 16,000 A/m.

Inside is Citizen's 9054 automatic. It's a true GMT, so the local hour hand jumps independently while the 24-hour hand stays put. It runs at 28,800 vph on 24 jewels, holds 50 hours of reserve, hacks and hand-winds. Citizen rates it at -10 to +20 seconds a day. The watch comes on a black leather strap with contrast stitching.

Interestingly, pricing is coming from retailers instead of Citizen. The Italian dealer Boglietti 1886 has it listed for €1,499, which is about $1,706, while Tempus has it at 51,419 THB. Citizen hasn't put out a release of its own yet.
