Seiko's new limited-edition titanium Astron sports 5X63 GPS solar, Diamond Shield coating

Seiko has announced a new Shohei Ohtani Astron. The HAB012J is part of the Astron Nexter line, and it's a Japan-only limited edition of 1,700 pieces. It costs ¥440,000 including tax, which works out to roughly $2,784, and it's due in November. Reservations open at noon on Friday, September 25, through the Seiko Online Store, Seiko Dream Square and Seiko boutiques across Japan.

The dial is the bit that directly ties it to Ohtani. It's blue with a textured pattern, and the sub-dials are white. There's a red seconds hand running over the top as well. That combination is the Los Angeles Dodgers' colors. Ohtani's jersey number, 17, is visible in the sub-dial at 3 o'clock. You can also see blue details on the crown and the pushers. His signature is engraved on the case back, alongside the serial number.

The case is made of pure titanium with Seiko's Diamond Shield coating. It's 43.4 mm wide, 12.4 mm thick and 50 mm lug to lug, with a sapphire crystal, Super Clear Coating and LumiBrite on the hands and markers. Water resistance is 10 bar. The bracelet uses a one-push three-fold clasp with a smart adjuster, and Seiko throws in a blue and white silicone strap as well.

Inside, you get 5X63, Seiko's GPS solar caliber. It is capable of picking up satellite signals to set the time, and covers 38 time zones alongside a perpetual calendar, a dual-time display, a 1/20-second stopwatch and a power reserve indicator. A full charge lasts about six months, or two years in power saving mode. Without a signal, Seiko rates it at ±15 seconds a month.

Seiko has done this before, too. Its 2022 Ohtani Astron was also limited to 1,700 pieces, but sold for ¥308,000 at the time.
