Limited edition Seiko watch now available in the US

Some months ago, Seiko launched the HCC007 as part of its Presage 145th Anniversary Limited Edition series. Initially launching in the UK and Europe, the model has now finally found its way to the United States as a limited-edition mechanical watch centered on an unusual cobalt-blue Arita porcelain dial. Seiko states that this is the first time that it has applied this cobalt-blue treatment to a Presage Arita porcelain model.

The porcelain is reportedly produced under the supervision of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, with Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team handling its manufacture at an Arita producer with roots dating to 1830. Seiko notes that high-temperature firing and handwork can leave small dimples, dots and color variations, meaning each dial has individual characteristics rather than perfectly uniform surfaces.

The new stainless-steel case, with a super-hard coating, measures 39.6mm across, 12.8mm thick and 46.8mm lug to lug. It has a dual-curved sapphire crystal, inner anti-reflective coating, a see-through screw caseback and a cow-leather strap with a three-fold push-button clasp.

Inside, the 6R51 automatic movement offers manual winding, a 72-hour power reserve and stop-seconds functionality, although its rated accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day is relatively broad. Water resistance is also somewhat disappointing in light of the price tag; Seiko describes it as only "splash resistant."

Seiko's US site lists the HCC007 at $1,700, limited to 1,500 pieces. Buyers who prioritize greater movement accuracy, improved water resistance or stronger technical specs should look elsewhere, as the HCC007’s primary appeal lies in its distinctive Arita porcelain dial and connection to Japanese ceramic craftsmanship.
