ArkTac Ultra: Olight improves the ArkPro flashlight with more features

During the O Fan Day, Olight has introduced a new and improved flashlight design based on the ArkPro. The new ArkTac Ultra and the regular ArkTac are both flat flashlights with multiple light sources. But Olight promises an improved aluminum unibody design with the new proprietary aluminum alloy OAL2. The new alloy is supposed to be more durable than the original OAL, which was used in many of Olight's Ultra lights.

The new ArkTac Ultra, with 1,800 lumens, will have a design familiar to ArkPro users. The front controls (dashboard) are basically the same. But Olight improved the status lights. Three new, lightly lit indicators show which light source has been selected even in the dark. Additionally, the battery indicator shows a new battery-safe mode that provides two more hours of basic operation.

The back of the flashlight features new controls, giving users direct access to certain light settings. Two new tail switches are available. The ArkPro series didn't have those switches.

The controls offer access to five light sources: floodlight, spotlight, UV light, red light, and a green laser. In "applicable markets", the laser can be switched from Class 1 to Class 3R intensity if needed, according to Olight. Class 3R will not be available in Europe.

A new sensor allows the ArkTac series to measure the distance to objects and prevent accidental activation inside a backpack or a user's pocket, for example, since those lights can get very hot.

ArkTac with a reduced feature set

Along with the ArkTac Ultra, Olight will also release the ArkTac. This version is aimed at regular users, while the Ultra version targets a more professional customer base, including the security sector. Both will be available as everyday carry flashlights.

However, the cheaper ArkTac lacks both the laser and the new lit-up indicators on the front dashboard. The ArkTac also doesn't use the new OAL2. The ArkTac is also slightly dimmer at 1,700 lumens, though the difference should barely be noticeable.

Olight's ArkTac Ultra and ArkTac can be charged via USB Type-C. The company also improved the magnetic charging cable (MCC). The new version is called MCC4 with faster charging speeds and – for the first time – a USB Type-C cable to be plugged into a power supply unit. Up to now, all MCC cables have used USB Type-A.

According to Olight, the ArkTac Ultra will be available before the end of 2026 for 160 USD. The ArkTac Ultra will also be released in a premium version, including a new magnetic mounting system as well as the new MCC4 cable at 200 USD. The regular ArkTac will cost 120 USD. All flashlights can already be preordered. However, at the time of writing, the website is experiencing a heavy load.
