Casio's new fabric-strap F-91WF watches finally arrive in the US

Casio’s iconic F-91W gets a fabric strap and a big price bump
Casio’s fabric-strap F-91WF watches are now available in the US in black, navy blue, and olive green for $45.95. The recycled-PET strap adds comfort and variety, but the otherwise familiar F-91W design and features make its steep premium over resin models difficult to justify.

If you’ve been waiting for Casio’s new fabric-strap F-91WF series to reach the US, the wait is finally over. The good news is that the US is getting all three models—black, blue, and olive green—unlike Europe, where Casio launched only two of the three colorways. Now for the not-so-good part: the new cloth band models, as we speculated weeks ago, cost twice as much as the standard resin F-91W variants.

The all-black F-91WF-1A, the navy blue F-91WF-2A, and the olive green F-91WF-3A are now officially available for purchase directly from Casio’s US website. The pricing is set at $45.95, representing a roughly 53% bump in price when compared to the $29.95 resin F-91W-1 listed on Casio.com. And you can easily find the same model on Amazon and Walmart for around $19 to $22, which makes the real-world price gap between the resin and fabric-strap models even bigger, twice as much.

That’s a steep premium for what is essentially the same famously simple digital watch.

For that extra money, you’re not getting a radically different watch. The F-91WF keeps the compact 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5mm resin case and remains featherweight at just 21 grams. The biggest upgrade is that the new model swaps the standard resin band for a woven fabric strap, which is made from recycled PET fibers and designed to resist scratches and stains.

The rest of the package is quite familiar, including the digital display, LED light, daily alarm, hourly time signal, automatic calendar, 1/100-second stopwatch, and seven-year battery life that have helped make the F-91W a perennial favorite.

Whether the fabric strap is worth another $25 or so over the street price of a classic F-91W is up to you. That said, if you’re a fan of the F-91W but want something other than its ubiquitous resin strap, you finally have that option in the F-91WF.
