Casio unveils two retro analog-digital watches with sunburst dials

Casio has added two new colorways to its hybrid analog-digital AQ-240 lineup. The new AQ-240E-2A2 and AQ-240E-1A are available for pre-order in Japan starting today and are expected to see a wider international release in the coming weeks. They’ll join the AQ-240E trio that arrived in April.

The latest additions keep the squircle shape and straightforward functionality of the existing AQ-240E models while bringing a pair of more subdued dial options. The AQ-240E-1A has a black sunburst dial, while the AQ-240E-2A2 goes with a deep blue hue, with both models housed in chrome-plated resin cases and paired with stainless steel bands.

The AQ-240’s square dial is framed by a softly rounded case, creating a nice balance between sharp lines and gentle curves. Slim metallic hour markers ring the dial, while simple silver-tone hands handle the analog timekeeping.

And then there’s the digital display. Tucked neatly into the lower portion of the dial, it gives the AQ-240 its unmistakable analog-digital character without overwhelming the otherwise dressy design. It can display a second time zone and supports world time, along with a 1/100-second stopwatch, daily alarm, hourly time signal, and automatic calendar.

On the inside is Module 5154, which offers a respectable set of features. There’s dual time and world time, a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute capacity, a daily alarm and hourly time signal, an automatic calendar, and a 12/24 hour digital time. The battery is rated to last about three years, and you also get basic water resistance for everyday use.

Pricing & Availability

For the time being, Casio's new AQ-240E-2A2 and AQ-240E-1A watches are limited to Japan. They're available for pre-order starting today for ¥7,700 (~$48) and will go on sale later this month. Casio has yet to confirm when the duo will make their way to global markets, including the US, UK, and Europe.
