Casio's new hybrid Vintage watch arrives in the US for $10 more than in Japan
Casio US has now officially listed its newest Vintage collab, the AQ230ECK-3A, at $120. The model number loses the JR suffix the Japanese market uses on AQ-230ECK-3AJR. It has a new badge but no buy button. There is a notification signup instead, so a US release date has not been set.
Japan has it at ¥17,600 including 10 percent consumption tax, which is roughly close to $110 at current rates. Minus the tax, the Japanese figure falls to roughly $100, while the American price excludes sales tax entirely and is added at checkout. That means American buyers will pay about $20 more for Casio's Café Kitsuné collaboration than Japanese ones.
The watch itself is based on Casio's AQ-230 analog-digital platform with matcha green. The color is a reference to Café Kitsuné having introduced matcha to Paris before it built its reputation in speciality coffee. The brand's fox is below the twelve o'clock position. The wordmark is printed above six, and both are also engraved on the caseback. The logo is also stamped into the bracelet clasp, and the packaging matches the dial.
It is worth noting that the case and bezel are made of resin with a metallic finish rather than metal, and the crystal is plastic rather than mineral or sapphire. The bracelet is genuine stainless steel.
Dimensions are 38.8 by 29.8 by 8.1 mm at 47 grams, with the bracelet fitting wrists between 150 and 205 mm. Module 5154 covers dual time, a 1/100-second stopwatch to 60 minutes, an alarm with hourly signal and an auto calendar, at plus or minus 30 seconds a month on a battery lasting about three years.
Water resistance is rated for everyday use, with no bar figure. No limited edition count has been published in either market.
